I have a Champion and have been unable to find help with a letter in the serial number. TBIX is the number but I'm having a problem with the X. Not really concerned with a value but would love to know the time period it was made.
Iver Johnson Serial Number Location
I have been given an old IJ shotgun, single 12 ga. Has 2 patent numbers on barrel with champion in the middle. I was told first champion was made in 1909. However I can find no info on a serial number. There is no numbers on the stocks on receiver tangs, trigger etc. It's a side step and only numbers I found are as listed. On the latching Tang on bottom of barrel it appears to say 1889. It has been welded, repaired here so not sure of last 2 numbers.Only other numbers are on the forearm lock Tang. On one side it has a 3 and on other side has 968.Nothing else anywhere on gun. I understood serial number would probably be letters. Trying to identify original ammo used. 2 3/4 shells fit fine but I'm thinking should be 2 1/2 inch black powder. Thanks
Iver Johnson was a US firearms company founded in 1871 by Norwegian immigrant Iver Johnson and his partner W. C. Douglas. The company produced a variety of revolvers and pistols until 1917, when it was bought by the Remington Arms Company.if(typeof ez_ad_units!='undefined')ez_ad_units.push([[300,250],'grimwarrior_com-large-mobile-banner-1','ezslot_5',170,'0','0']);__ez_fad_position('div-gpt-ad-grimwarrior_com-large-mobile-banner-1-0');Iver Johnson revolvers can be dated by their serial numbers, which are typically found on the underside of the barrel. The first two digits of the serial number indicate the year of manufacture, while the last four digits indicate the number of the revolver produced that year. For example, a revolver with the serial number 1234 would have been manufactured in 1812 and would be the 34th revolver produced that year.
To date a Iver Johnson revolver, first locate the serial number on the underside of the barrel. Then, using a chart of Iver Johnson serial numbers, match the first two digits of the serial number with the year of manufacture. Finally, consult the chart to determine the number of the revolver produced that year. The value of Iver Johnson revolversThe Iver Johnson revolver is a popular choice for those looking for a reliable and affordable handgun. The company has been in business since 1871 and has a reputation for producing quality firearms. The Iver Johnson revolver is available in a variety of calibers and styles, making it a versatile option for self-defense, target shooting, or plinking. The revolver is simple to operate and maintain, and its reliability has made it a favorite among gun owners for over a century.
The patent dates and ALL markings on the top and sides of the barrel and frame and other locations plus the serial number with letter prefix (if there is one) under the left grip panel or the revolver butt are absolutely necessary to determine the Model and variation of your revolver.
